Amazing how that with a disaster like Haiti (metaphorically) just down the road, a country can still find the time to organise rallies against the poor and marginalised people who seek to come to their shores. Sure immigration is a difficult (and probably unresolvable) issue, but you'd think the for-and-against could make their case once in a while without needing to demonise people who at the end of the day, just want a better life than what was given to them by the luck of where they were born.

On a broader note, will be interesting to see how much of the "Tea Party" movement approach gets traction in Australian politics. TO an outsider it feels like a repeat of the Pauline Hanson years, only with "credibility" via the involvement of a major political party, in this case the Republicans and the likes of Sarah Palin.
